I admired the guy when he started Airasia. But I started to feel disappointed when some where in early 2013 when I heard one of the reporters said that she heard Tony saying something like "I am not a Malaysian, I am a businessman" in response to one of the international interviews.
Well, I'm sure that the full sentence would explained what he really meant. But it still bothers me thinking that if he really meant it by "I am not a Malaysian". Now, he is making noise about klia2. He wants klia2 to be low cost so that everyone can fly. But understand that an airline carrier such as AA can choose to operate at low cost, an airport cannot be low cost, especially in a developing country. We need a proper airport even if it operates for low cost carriers (LCC) such as AA. But the fact is, klia2 does not only accommodate AA but to other carriers as well.
Tony is not mad at MAHB and the Government, he is afraid that other LCC will gain support from the frequent flyers. He is not ready to compete and yet he is talking about MAHB being a monopoly. MAHB is an airport operator. Tony Fernandes is a businessman who is afraid of competitions.
This is Juba Airport in South Sudan, Tony wants klia2 to be cheap |
Let me add to that, building an airport is not cheap, making sure it is safe to use is not cheap. well Tony.... do you know what would be cheap? talk is cheap.
So keep talking.
