#GoNorthport WHARF 8A OPENING ON 24TH OF FEBRUARY 2014

There you go guys, your friendly neighborhood Northport is expanding. With the new wharf completed, it will extend its container terminal to accommodate more handing capacity as much as 600k TEUs.

I asked a friend of mine working in shipping business, what is TEUs? he said TEU is an abbreviation of Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit. Why do we care? we care because the shipping industry is important to us whether we know it or not. Let me explain about this important chain of services.

In Malaysia we need a product from overseas, so what do we do? we import. How do we get it here? by Bus? double NO! for that answer.

Lets just say that we want to import spare-parts from overseas, we could get it here via aeroplane but that would be costly. So we use sea freight. Using ships to transport containers from there to here. And its a fact that our ports are busy with these activities every single day, and ships are queuing up at our port to unload those containers.

So with Northport's expansion, more ships could park and unloading would be more efficient. Ultimately, the businessman in Malaysia can rely on this efficiency to make sure they have sufficient supply of spare-parts and we the users get better price and service.

Bravo and Kudos to #GoNorthport
